Scrapbook Circle Hello Today and Working Outside the Grid

I am a known lover of the grid format, but if you use grids a lot you know sometimes you have to mix it up a bit so you don't get too static or boring. I used the Scrapbook Circle Februaru Kit Hello Today and Add on Right There to make this sort of grid based layout:

rk sc i totally love you

I started with 3 4x6 photos and punched them into 3x4 rectangles with rounded corners. But rather than make the whole layout a grid with 3x4 shapes, I cut out the October Afternoon patterned paper into squares and rounded those corners or cut around the inner shapes. I added some embellishments and stickers to the squares to further break out of the grid.

rk i totally love you cu2

I also put the title in between the squares and photos. So it is a grid, but not completely linear or symmetrical.

rk i totally love you cu1
Just another way to change up the grid! Do you like to change up the grid or does working outside the lines make you cringe?

Therm O Web Valentines ♥

During the after holiday doldrums, I try and find reasons to decorate. Valentine's Day is the perfect opportunity to take out your Therm O Web, combine it with some Authentique and create some fun Valentine decorations to hang where the stocking used to be.

rk tow au

Start with some wood heart decorations and cover the centers with Authentique patterned paper. Use the Therm O Web Super Stik.

rk tow au1

Apply to the edge of the wood and the edge of the paper for better sticking power.

rk tow au2

To apply a button border...

rk tow au7

use Therm O Web Zots.

rk tow au3

To adhere a sequin border use Small Therm O Web Zots.

rk tow au8

Pull out a long sheet of the Zots roll and stick the sequins down onto the small Zots in the preferred color order. Then remove from the Zots backing and adhere.

rk tow au5

To adhere  a large bow and small Authentique stickers...

rk tow au9

use Therm O Web 3D Zots.

String all three decorations with bakers twine and hang on the banister with red tulle for a quick and easy Valentine's decoration!

Scrapbook Circle One Item Wonder

My One Item Wonder for this month on the Scrapbook Circle Blog was the October Afternoon Tin Pins available in the Scrapbook Circle February Kit, Hello Today. I love these little flair badges because they are the perfect size and have super cute designs on them. I use them all the time, but for this layout I decided to combine them with some other embellishments and make them into flower centers.

rk sc a night at disney

I layered flower stickers and stacked them up with three dimensional adhesive and used the Tin Pins as the center of each flower.

I usually use buttons or brads as my flower centers but the Tin Pins added some extra dimension and a trendy look with their fun sentiments that added to the theme or story of the layout.

I also like the mix of textures and finishes when you combine the shiny Tin Pins with matte stickers and cute little wood veneer hearts.

Have you been having fun with the October Afternoon Tin Pins? Have you come up with any fun or new ways to use them? We would love to see, so be sure to post them on the Scrapbook Circle Facebook Page.

Scrapbook Circle Take 2

I am up on the Scrapbook Circle Blog today with a little segment we call Take 2. Take 2 is where you scraplift yourself! If you have never scraplifted yourself I highly recommend it! Do you ever finish a layout and feel really happy with it? That is a great candidate for self-scraplifting. Or, on the other hand, do you ever finish a layout, get it all glued down and look at it with fresh eyes and see how you would have done it differently? That too is a great design to scraplift to see if you like it better with changes made. Here is my new layout made with the February Scrapbook Circle kit Hello Today and Add On, Right Here.

rk sc today there was love
I based it on this layout I made for the February 2012 Scrapbook Circle kit Remember This:

rk you are my i love you

I went all the way back 2 years because this has remained one of my favorite layouts! I liked the stacked photos in the middle, the mix of stamping and  misting and the centralized design. I wanted to see if it would hold up with more layers and embellishments and look as good with color photos.

rk today there was love cu1
So instead of using a plain cardstock background, I layered patterned paper over cardstock and stitched the border. I layered epoxy hearts over the stamped  Scrapbook Circle exclusive stamp.

rk today there was love cu2

Just like in the original layout, my middle photo is a small Polaroid with banners at the bottom. I really enjoyed scraplifting one of my favorite older layouts and I will definitely do it again. How about you? Do you use a design over and over? Do you ever consciously scraplift your own designs?
