You definitely want to start at Best Creation blog if you haven't been there already. And here is the stitched layout I made using the Back 2 School collection:
I machine stitched around every piece of patterned paper I used. I love the way a plain straight stitch finishes or borders an edge.
And then on the cardstock strip I used a zig zag stitch to mix it up a bit:
